# Notifications

> Get Blujay notifications on your computer and your iPhone, and choose what you're notified about.

Blujay can notify you about new messages, missed calls, voicemails and conversations assigned to you. You can get notifications in four places:

| Where | Counts as |
| - | - |
| Your web browser | **Desktop** |
| The Blujay Chrome extension | **Desktop** |
| The Blujay iPhone app | **Phone** |
| The Blujay web app on your iPhone's Home Screen | **Phone** |

Turn notifications on for each device you use, then choose what you're notified about. Your choices apply to every device.

## Turn on notifications

> [tab] Browser
>
> **1. Open Notification Settings**
>
> In the web app at [app.blujay.io](https://app.blujay.io), click your profile picture at the bottom of the left sidebar, then click **Notification Settings**.
>
> **2. Turn on this browser**
>
> Next to **This browser**, click **Enable notifications**.
>
> **3. Allow notifications**
>
> When your browser asks, click **Allow**. **This browser** changes to **On**.
>
> You'll get alerts even when Blujay isn't the tab you're looking at.

> [tab] Chrome
>
> **1. Install the extension**
>
> In the web app, click the phone icon (**Get the apps**) in the left sidebar, then click **Add to Chrome**.
>
> **2. Open Blujay in the side panel**
>
> Click the Blujay icon in Chrome's toolbar to open the side panel, and sign in.
>
> **3. Turn on notifications**
>
> Click **Enable notifications** in the side panel, then click **Allow** when Chrome asks.
>
> Once the extension is installed, your Blujay alerts in Chrome come from the extension, so you won't get the same alert twice.

> [tab] iPhone
>
> **1. Get the app**
>
> In the web app, click the phone icon (**Get the apps**) in the left sidebar and scan the QR code with your iPhone.
>
> **2. Sign in**
>
> After you sign in, the app asks **Allow Blujay to send notifications?** Tap **Enable**, then tap **Allow** when your iPhone asks.
>
> **3. Check it worked**
>
> Tap the **Settings** tab. Under **Notifications**, **Permission** should say **Allowed** and **Device** should say **Registered**.
>
> Tapped **Not Now**? Go to the app's **Settings** tab and tap **Enable Notifications**.

> [tab] Home Screen
>
> Prefer not to install the app? You can add the Blujay web app to your iPhone's Home Screen and get notifications there.
>
> **1. Add Blujay to your Home Screen**
>
> Open [app.blujay.io](https://app.blujay.io) in Safari, tap the **Share** button, then tap **Add to Home Screen**.
>
> **2. Open it from your Home Screen**
>
> Open Blujay from the new Home Screen icon and sign in.
>
> **3. Turn on notifications**
>
> Tap **More**, then **Profile** (or **Profile & Settings**), then **Notification Settings**. Tap **Enable notifications**, then tap **Allow**.

## Choose what you're notified about

**1. Open Notification Settings**

In the web app, click your profile picture at the bottom of the left sidebar, then click **Notification Settings**.

**2. Choose which conversations**

Under **Notify me about**, choose **All conversations**, **Mine and unassigned** or **Only mine**. This applies to messages, missed calls and voicemails.

**3. Choose which alerts go where**

Under **Alerts**, turn each alert on or off in the **Desktop** and **Phone** columns.

**4. Send a test**

Click **Test** next to an alert. You'll see where it was sent, for example **Sent to Chrome on Mac and iPhone app**.

## What you'll be notified about

| Alert | What it shows |
| - | - |
| **New messages** | The contact's name and a preview of the message |
| **Group messages** | Who sent it, the group name and a preview |
| **Missed calls** | Who called |
| **Voicemails** | Who left the voicemail |
| **Assigned to me** | Who assigned you a conversation |

All of these are on by default except **Assigned to me**.

Click or tap a notification to open that conversation. If you already have that conversation open and on screen, you won't get a notification for new messages in it.

## The badge on the iPhone app

The number on the Blujay app icon is how many conversations need your attention. It isn't a count of unread messages.

## More than one device

You can get notifications on as many devices as you like. Turn notifications on for each one.

Each iPhone gets notifications for one Blujay account at a time: whoever signed in most recently. When you sign out of the iPhone app, that iPhone stops getting your notifications.

## Common problems

> [accordion] I'm not getting any notifications
>
> Check these in order:
>
> 1. In **Notification Settings**, make sure the device shows **On** (browser) or the iPhone app's **Settings** tab shows **Allowed** and **Registered**.
> 2. Make sure the alert is turned on in the right column: **Desktop** for computers, **Phone** for your iPhone.
> 3. Check **Notify me about**. With **Only mine** or **Mine and unassigned**, you won't hear about conversations assigned to someone else.
> 4. Check that Focus, Do Not Disturb or your computer's notification settings aren't silencing your browser or Blujay.
> 5. Click **Test** to send yourself a test notification.

> [accordion] The browser says "Blocked"
>
> Your browser is blocking notifications from Blujay. Click **How to fix** in **Notification Settings**, or:
>
> 1. Click the icon at the left of the address bar.
> 2. Set **Notifications** to **Allow**.
> 3. Reload the page.

> [accordion] It says "Needs Home Screen"
>
> You're using Blujay in a browser tab on your iPhone, where notifications aren't available. Install the Blujay iPhone app, or add Blujay to your Home Screen (see the **Home Screen** tab above).

> [accordion] It says "Not supported"
>
> This browser doesn't support notifications. Try the latest version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.

> [accordion] The iPhone app says "Denied"
>
> Notifications are turned off for Blujay in your iPhone's settings. To turn them back on:
>
> 1. Open the iPhone **Settings** app.
> 2. Tap **Notifications**, then **Blujay**.
> 3. Turn on **Allow Notifications**.
> 4. Close the Blujay app completely and open it again.

> [accordion] The iPhone app says "Needs retry"
>
> Your iPhone couldn't finish setting up notifications. In the app's **Settings** tab, tap **Retry Registration**.

> [accordion] The test says "No device is set up to receive this yet"
>
> None of your devices has notifications turned on for that column. Follow the steps under [Turn on notifications](#turn-on-notifications) for the device you want.

> [accordion] I'm not notified when a conversation is assigned to me
>
> **Assigned to me** is off by default. Turn it on in **Notification Settings**.
